Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics manages to make a name for itself with an impeccable way to play as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and World Warriors.
Making their way from the iconic Big Blue arcade cabinet, the release of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics brings together seven titles featuring the greatest heroes, villains, and fighting machines to ever grace pop culture.
Does this title manage to marvel, or is this collection less amusing than Phase 4 of the MCU?
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics Review
Part of the joy of the Marvel series of fighting games comes from their focus on speed and flash – much like its source material.
Earlier entries like X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes stuck with the comic side of things (albeit with a cameo from Akuma), featuring Wolverine, Captain America, and Spider-Man throwing down with Street Fighter-style one-on-one play – albeit at a faster pace and more “uncanny” style, so to speak.
However, there are some unique wrinkles that change up play, including X-Power Gauges in the former and Infinity Gems in the latter. Even after all these years, these twists make these earlier entries well worth the time to master.
However, the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection truly shines with the later entries found in the collection. From X-Men vs. Street Fighter onward, action becomes twice as nice with two-on-two (and eventually three-on-three) battles, characters from Capcom’s line of titles (including Mega Man!), and plenty of chaos.
By the time players make it to Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (which has the most bang for your buck content-wise), players will have 56 characters and countless options to choose from. Analysis paralysis can easily set in, but those who couldn’t care less about “Amingo” can just as easily choose from legends like Ryu and Cyclops for their team.
This adaptability also applies to Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics’ ease of use. Those who just want to mash buttons and defeat Thanos can ease their way into things with one button specials, saving and loading, and other accommodations.
