They\u2019re so diverse!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-9-16 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kellen Goff is also...\" width=\"422\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QktsCCYi7h0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kellen Goff&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I was going into voice acting, the people I admired were the ones who were magicians who could take on any different mask and fool everybody into thinking:<br><br>\u201cWow, that is not the same person!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s always what I strive to do, because the magic of voice acting is that you can&#8217;t see the face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You never know who&#8217;s going to be behind the microphone and hear what you&#8217;re doing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m also on the autism spectrum, which helps a ton because I grew up playing pretend.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s really all the job is at its core: Playing pretend in very, very visceral ways.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whenever I see different characters&#8217; art, or see something differently written, it sort of launches me into a different persona.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes we create it on the fly, sometimes we have time with it &#8211; goodness willing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I pride myself on trying to make no two roles the same; as I reach a later part of my career, the lines become a bit more blurred.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s just a fun game to me to see how different I can make each character!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Absolutely!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On that note, you&#8217;ve got your fans &#8211; there&#8217;s so many people that admire your performances and how you go above and beyond.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What are some of your favorite fan stories from <a href=\"https:\/\/galaxycon.com\/\">GalaxyCon<\/a> and places like that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kellen Goff&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oh man, there are so many!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I remember early on at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animepasadena.com\/\">Anime Pasadena<\/a>, in the Los Angeles County neighborhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was an easier sell back then, because I was pretty much only Funtime Freddy at the time, maybe Molten Freddy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There were these two kiddos &#8211; I&#8217;m sure they&#8217;re both 25 and lawyers now!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time, they were just so, so tickled and hyped about Five Nights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the sweetest things I&#8217;ve ever gotten was this scrapbook of all the reasons that they love Kellen Goff. It&#8217;s decorated on all pages and has pictures of my exploits at the time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think my dog is in there!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I remember just being so, so honored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well-deserved!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kellen Goff&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was incredible, back in 2017 or something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even way back then, I was floored by these people who liked what I was doing in my parents\u2019 house!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a ton of stories like that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s some people I&#8217;ll keep nameless out of respect for them\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They said that my Glamrock Freddy came at just the right time to save them from going down a very dark path &#8211; if you catch me &#8211; being the father figure they never had.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s moments like that I feel affirm what I&#8217;m doing, if not the enjoyment I derive from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s very powerful &#8211; and I definitely see that like you&#8217;ve touched so many lives.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-numbers.com\/movie\/Five-Nights-at-Freddys-(2023)\">original Five Nights at Freddy&#8217;s grossed $300 million<\/a> &#8211; I have a strong feeling that this is going to be the breakout movie of December.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So keep on keeping on, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kellen Goff<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The franchise is such a juggernaut, I am very confident in our chances!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Absolutely!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing I saw is that you studied under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0074036\/\">Bob Bergen&#8217;s<\/a> voiceover workshops.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I saw you&#8217;ve worked with fellow legends like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0395777\/\">Richard Horvitz<\/a> (Invader Zim), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0012121\/\">Charlie Adler<\/a> (Buster Bunny), and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What were some of the insights you got for your own voiceover toolkit working with these legends? What were some of the key takeaways?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kellen Goff&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bob was my first ever voice acting teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I had done theater in grade school, middle school, and high school, but I had never had like a Hollywood acting teacher &#8211; like Bob is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He and Richard really got me out of the misconception that it was about the voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To this day, I keep the fact that voice acting is about creating a character that is so convincing that it can move people even without facial expressions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The voice does factor into that, but I&#8217;ve come to describe it as the acting is the cake and the voice is the frosting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can eat frosting from the tub, but it&#8217;s going to be more satisfying when it&#8217;s on top of a cake, right?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lot of that is what they taught me.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bob taught me some of my first creature noises &#8211; how to bark, that kind of thing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And Richard got me out of certain vocal types he knew weren&#8217;t going to serve me, putting me on the straight and narrow toward acting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And Charlie? Charlie just beat the crud out of me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;ve ever heard about Charlie, anybody will tell you he is unafraid of telling you the unabridged and unabashed truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It comes from a place of love though, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kellen Goff&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exactly!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He tells it to you straight, because he likes to cut through all the noise.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He knows exactly what mindset you need to get into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He can be gentle too! Actors are emotional people, and he is emotional as well &#8211; even if I&#8217;m sure he doesn&#8217;t want to admit it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Otherwise, he wouldn&#8217;t be as good at his job!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His teaching philosophy is to diagnose, tell you what&#8217;s wrong, and keep drilling it into you until you believe it too &#8211; and it&#8217;s worked out for a ton of people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The way I&#8217;m describing it sounds brutal, but he&#8217;s one of the sweetest people on this Earth as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does it because he doesn&#8217;t want to waste our time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ll give a shoutout to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0235006\/\">D.C. Douglas<\/a> too &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/dcdouglas.com\/actorslife\/truth-about-famous-voice-actors\/\">he said on his website<\/a> that you are \u201csuper friendly and truly a genuine person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I like to think that&#8217;s from the heart too &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ARQUqATd07E\">from Albert Wesker<\/a>!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kellen Goff&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D.C. Douglas is lovely!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;ve done some comedy improv shows together in Atlanta and here in Los Angeles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So one thing I&#8217;d like to talk about too is the Bloater in The Last of Us: Part II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;d say that&#8217;s your most terrifying role! And that\u2019s saying a lot\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just that sheer guttural sound &#8211; I heard somebody say it&#8217;s \u201clike a Clicker gargling Sprite!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when a Bloater is on fire, you\u2019re like:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOh my gosh, I have to get out of here!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s truly incredible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How did you channel that energy? Man, the Bloater\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It comes back to me embodying a different body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to the Bloater, I don&#8217;t believe we even had art at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s lovely when we do get art on the voice acting side, but a lot of the time we have descriptions of who they are, what they are, and what range they should be in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This would be back around 2018 &#8211; maybe even earlier, knowing the production cycle of video game voice acting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was something to the effect of something low and guttural, just mucus in the throat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don&#8217;t think they said \u201cBloater\u201d or \u201cClicker\u201d or anything &#8211; I&#8217;m pretty sure they said \u201cZombie A,\u201d \u201cZombie B,\u201d \u201cZombie C.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time, I gave them a showcase of stuff within that range.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have, what&#8217;s called the manipulable epiglottis &#8211; it\u2019s what my ENT called it.
