We really wanted to get back to it, and so this was our chance to do it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we saw this IP, we were on it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s the way to do it!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While I&#8217;ve yet to read the Invincible comic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/INVINCIBLE-SEASON-1\/dp\/B08WJN83XZ\">I do love the Amazon show<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to Invincible VS\u2019 3v3 action, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 definitely come to mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But then Invincible proper is a very bloody and brutal series &#8211; and that brings Mortal Kombat to mind!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Playing the demo, I was also able to tap into maneuvers akin to <a href=\"https:\/\/guiltygear.fandom.com\/wiki\/Roman_Cancel\">Guilty Gear\u2019s Roman Cancel mechanic<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On that note &#8211; whether it be fighters or anything else &#8211; what did you want to tap into for Invincible VS?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019re definitely doing your own thing, but what are some things you wanted to go \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/8TGalu36BHA\">even further beyond<\/a>,\u201d Dragon Ball-style?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"And this... Is... to go... even further beyond!\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8TGalu36BHA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dave Hall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oh yeah, for sure!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think we were greatly inspired by Mortal Kombat, right?&nbsp;We&#8217;re inspired by all of them &#8211; honestly, just like pieces of all of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And as I said, we&#8217;re also former KI devs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We wanted to bring that feeling of back and forth combat to a tag fighter &#8211; which we thought would be kind of unique in this genre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Usually tag fighters are very combo-centric &#8211; like our game is &#8211; but they didn&#8217;t have a lot of back and forth inside the combo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For us, it was really important for us to put our mechanics in there so you&#8217;re paying attention the entire time you&#8217;re playing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you&#8217;re on defense or offense, you&#8217;re always looking out for what&#8217;s happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah, always being in the moment &#8211; I totally understand!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ve also got all these different characters!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking at a roster like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and its 56 characters &#8211; each of them have their own unique functions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What were some of the functions you wanted to include in Invincible VS?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Were there any mechanics like Phoenix Wright\u2019s left-field style in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 that made you want to do your own thing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Phoenix Wright\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cqQfkxZNwRQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dave Hall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think our newest character &#8211; who really shows off some of that &#8211; is <a href=\"https:\/\/invinciblevs.com\/dupli-kate\">Dupli-Kate<\/a>. She&#8217;s really incredible!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dupli-Kate Gameplay Trailer | Invincible VS\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/83tV-uOkbMM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She has her copies that she sends out for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s something I&#8217;ve never really seen that much of in a fighting game &#8211; it\u2019s just a really cool mechanic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I thought of her from the beginning &#8211; we knew we were going to make her. I knew she was going to be a challenge from the get-go, but we planned on it and she turned out great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamersheroes.com\/gaming-news\/dupli-kate-joining-invincible-vs-roster\/\">When I saw that news last Tuesday, I had to get the word out<\/a> &#8211; I was seeing double!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On that note, talking Phoenix Wright\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/invinciblevs.com\/cecil\">Cecil<\/a> is a great pick, but he\u2019s definitely unique!&nbsp;How were you able to bring him into the fight?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I know there&#8217;s some things you can&#8217;t talk about, but compared to heroes like Omni-Man and Dupli-Kate, it\u2019s a unique approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What did you want to add to his character?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cecil Stedman Gameplay Trailer | Invincible VS\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nKYAyVmdqkM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dave Hall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well, we loved his personality!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\u2019s just such a fun character &#8211; from the way he emotes, to everything he does, to his whole backstory, to just everything about him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think, for us, it was just like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLet&#8217;s just have him in there with the superheroes, and let&#8217;s have him spend all the money in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There you go &#8211; cash is king!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On that note, we&#8217;re talking about these personalities\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obviously, you got <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0799777\/\">J.K. Simmons<\/a> as <a href=\"https:\/\/invinciblevs.com\/omni-man\">Omni-Man<\/a> in the series, along with personalities like <a href=\"https:\/\/invinciblevs.com\/rex-splode\">Rex Splode<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Our Glorious GOAT | Rex Splode Fighter Deep Dive - Invincible VS\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CmVpUSj-tos?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everybody in the Invincible series is so unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I know you mentioned Invincible VS&#8217; unique intro clips SNK-style &#8211; how else are you looking to bring these characters to life?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dave Hall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have a lot of clips that come on, especially when they&#8217;re coming in and out of the fight and when they&#8217;re coming in to tag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They&#8217;re all based on the opponent you&#8217;re facing too &#8211; which is really fun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also have a lot of in-game VO as you&#8217;re playing as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, when <a href=\"https:\/\/invinciblevs.com\/invincible\">Mark<\/a> comes in and knocks somebody&#8217;s head off, he&#8217;s like,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOh shit!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">True to serious form!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I like that!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dave Hall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s really fun for us to capture their personalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So on that same note, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamersheroes.com\/gaming-news\/invincible-vs-ella-mental-the-game-awards-2025-trailer-released\/\">I know Ella Mental is new to the title<\/a> &#8211; that&#8217;s awesome!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What was it like designing each character, and what was your favorite part?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you said, you&#8217;re creating something new to the universe that&#8217;s true to series form&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dave Hall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For <a href=\"https:\/\/invinciblevs.com\/atom-eve\">Atom Eve<\/a> in particular &#8211; it was fun to try to make her brutal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&quot;Molecular Genius&quot; | Atom Eve Fighter Deep Dive - Invincible VS\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iTmwq8OQgqQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She was really brutal in the series &#8211; but making a projectile character brutal in this game was really interesting to do.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;What kind of constructs was she going to have? How were we going to make this work?&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was really fun bringing her to life, especially with this projectile element.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I mean, she was our first projectile character, so we had to make a projectile system &#8211; just to even make it on the screen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Figuring out how to make her awesome and brutal from a range &#8211; but obviously not somebody that&#8217;s going to win in all ranges.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So she was a fun one!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamersheroes.com\/features\/mark-julio-markman-interview-fgc-legend-talks-evo\/\">I previously interviewed MarkMan<\/a>, and I know Invincible VS was at <a href=\"https:\/\/evo.gg\/\">EVO<\/a> 2025 &#8211; the FGC is truly incredible!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Our first Evo \u2705 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1VQA1sZYhY\">pic.twitter.com\/1VQA1sZYhY<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Invincible VS (@InvincibleVS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/InvincibleVS\/status\/1952883787412718020?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 6, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Talking Bay Area, I grew up with the fighting game scene at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfland.com\/castrovalley\/\">Castro Valley Golfland<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What&#8217;s it like working with the FGC on this release?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dave Hall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is so fun for us!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We want to have as many FGC tests as we humanly can &#8211; we love their feedback.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;re sitting in these rooms with them, listening to everything they&#8217;re saying. They&#8217;ll send us feedback, and then we turn things around.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s one of the big things we\u2019re setting this project up to be &#8211; we can quickly iterate on anything that&#8217;s happening.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If they&#8217;re feeling something wrong with the motion controls, we can say that we&#8217;re going to go right in there and change things a day later.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;re very reactive to what they&#8217;re saying, and proactive to make sure it&#8217;s even better for the next time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And so every time they play the game, they always say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWow, it&#8217;s so much better than before!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s our big goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gamers Heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is the highest praise right there!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keeping it short and sweet\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who&#8217;s your favorite character from the series? I know, it\u2019s like picking your favorite child&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s narrow it down to three &#8211; it&#8217;s a three-on-three fighter, right?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dave Hall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ll tell you the team I like using right now\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I love using <a href=\"https:\/\/invinciblevs.com\/bulletproof\">Bulletproof<\/a>! He&#8217;s got kind of a mix-up game and is really fun to play with. I love his little clips and everything he&#8217;s got going on.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/invinciblevs.com\/thula\">Thula<\/a> is also one of my favorites &#8211; she&#8217;s the one with the hair braid.
