Powering Pearl Abyss’ megahit title Crimson Desert, the studio’s BlackSpace Engine is capable of incredible amounts of detail.

Gamers Heroes recently joined Pearl Abyss at GDC 2025 to learn more about the studio’s BlackSpace Engine – see what’s powering Crimson Desert with our preview.

Crimson Desert BlackSpace Engine GDC 2025 Preview

Crimson Desert’s beautiful – yet brutal – world of Pywel is ripe for exploration, and the cutting-edge BlackSpace Engine will make this adventure one to remember.

For one, the BlackSpace Engine prides itself on its seamless loading. Crimson Desert’s massive world is just waiting to be explored, and one particular segment with high speed skydiving provided the most amazing of panoramas.

The world of Crimson Desert will also pay host to an intense and dynamic combat system that packs tremendous impact. On that note, the weight the BlackSpace Engine provided to combat made us feel every strike – and we weren’t even on the receiving end!

Regarding the environment, the detail found in the smallest elements of Crimson Desert is truly remarkable. A moment on the beach proudly showcased the wave physics of the BlackSpace Engine, capturing the beauty of the ocean.

Perhaps the biggest standout element of our hands-off demo of Crimson Desert’s BlackSpace Engine came in the form of its cloth physics. Watching fabric naturally blowing in the wind was a truly remarkable experience.

Even The Incredibles and its “no capes” rule attempted to get around this – and Crimson Desert’s BlackSpace Engine mastered it.

Our engrossing session with Crimson Desert’s BlackSpace Engine made us appreciate the finer details of this world, promising to provide a truly cutting-edge experience for players.

Thank you to PR and Pearl Abyss for their time and for arranging this session!
