Blades of Fire GDC 2025 Preview – Forge Your Legend
Blades of Fire has one key mission for players: Head to the Royal Palace and kill the Queen.
However, as with most things in life, the devil is most certainty in the details.
Taking control of protagonist Aran de Lira, players will be joined by the young boy Adso in a dangerous world where its denizens are…less than nice.
Aran de Lira does have the right tools for the job in Blades of Fire. From soup to nuts, players can create weapons, take care of them, upgrade them, and swap them out.
However, those that approach Blades of Fire like a hack-and-slash title are in for a rude awakening. Rather, weapons in this title dish out Slashing, Piercing, and Blunt damage – and it’s important to always be mindful of one’s opponent. If you wield a sword against an armored foe, you’re in for a bad time.

Blades of Fire requires players need to scope out both their opponent and their own weaponry as they utilize head strikes, body strikes, and left and right strikes. One’s surroundings also come into play – we were ready and raring to go to bludgeon a warmonger holding a key, only to have our weapon bounce back from a beam.
Lesson learned.
Players will also need to be mindful of one’s Stamina in Blades of Fire, along with the overall condition of one’s weapons. Blades dull, and durability also enters the picture.
Enter Blades of Fire’s Forge, which also plays a major role in the title. Those that know their way around its system can customize weapons, repair them, and improve elements like damage, attack speed, and durability. Customization is key, and we look forward to taking a deep dive into this system with the full release.
Blades of Fire has got the right tools for the job, featuring an engaging combat system unlike anything in the gaming space today.
Blades of Fire will come out for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store on May 22.
