The secrets of Mt. Holly are just waiting to be discovered with the release of Dogubomb and Raw Fury’s strategy puzzle adventure Blue Prince.

Should players brave this title’s shifting corridors and ever-changing chambers?

Blue Prince Review – Watch Your Step

Stepping into the shoes of the grand-nephew of the late Herbert S. Sinclair, Blue Prince sets players on a seemingly simple mission: Find Room 46 in the great Mt. Holly manor.

Only thing is, there seems to be 45 rooms.

With players starting out with 50 steps to explore the manor before turning in each night, Blue Prince prides itself on how it throws mystery after mystery at the player.

For one, the layout of Blue Prince’s Mount Holly manor changes each day, meaning that players will need to be careful with one’s actions. This is definitely one case where you don’t want to get your steps in.

As players explore the manor, they’ll reach junctions at any given point, choosing between a number of different room options to draft up in their blueprints (get it?).

From closets to hallways to even observatories, each of this manor’s rooms serves its own purpose (even dead-ends!), but what that exact purpose is remains a mystery.

And that’s half the fun of Blue Prince!

Here lies another mystery in Blue Prince: Once done for the day, the player’s inventory is cleared and the layout is reset. Players can certainly get additional steps in with the use of elements like fruit, but it’s important to be deliberate in every move one makes.

We’ll fess up – our first few runs of Blue Prince were awkward as we adjusted to the general flow of things. While not necessarily a bad thing, Blue Prince is an immersive title that craves one’s full attention. On that note, everything – and we mean everything – in Blue Prince has meaning.

The world of Blue Prince is one of mystery, intrigue, and care.

Starting out, drafting up bedrooms and kitchens might not seem rudimentary. However, certain areas pack keys, gems, coins, and other important elements that tie into one’s future journey. There’s also notes to read that provide valuable insights, and don’t get us started on the shiny buttons in the Security Room…

It’s hard to talk about the sheer care that went into Blue Prince without spoiling anything, but everything begins to click as players figure out what goes where – and which rules can be bent in order to reach one’s goal.

Blue Prince is unlike anything else we’ve seen in the gaming space.

In order to get ahead, we took real-life pictures with our phone and copious notes in a notebook along the way. Blue Prince rewards exploration and the player’s attention, and the sheer feeling of satisfaction and “minmaxing” one’s run couldn’t be beat.

Blue Prince’s mysterious manor is just begging to be explored, providing a puzzling experience unlike anything else in the gaming space.
