PGA Tour 2K25 stands tall with its deep EvoSwing system, stellar graphics, and in-depth MyCAREER mode.
After taking a year off, HB Studios and 2K Games are going big with their new golf sim PGA Tour 2K25. Packing new EvoSwing mechanics, major tournaments, and the GOAT Tiger Woods himself on the cover, does this title manage to be the king of swing?
PGA Tour 2K25 Review
A sim-based golf game, PGA Tour 2K25 prides itself on its accuracy with its refined EvoSwing mechanics.
PGA Tour 2K25 lets players choose a 3-Click Swing system (think Hot Shots Golf/Everybody’s Golf) or a Swing Stick system mapped to one of the analog sticks.
Do note that while we preferred the 3-Click Swing System, only Swing Stick is allowed in Ranked Matchmaking as it is set to Pro Difficulty, so one will need to master PGA Tour 2K25’s Swing Stick system to join the big leagues.
Wait, wrong sport.
No matter what one chooses, PGA Tour 2K25’s EvoSwing mechanics set a new industry standard. Hitting the ball factors in elements like contact, transition, and swing path – everything is accounted for. As a result, getting a bogey in PGA Tour 2K25 is quite literally a skill issue.
No need to be discouraged; PGA Tour 2K25 grows with players as they learn its deep mechanics. There’s also a number of features that play to one’s strenghs and diminish one’s weaknesses.
When it comes to PGA Tour 2K25’s highly cusomizable MyPLAYER functionality, players can utilize Club Fittings, choose their preferred Archetypes, and can even lower the barrier of entry with PGA Tour 2K25’s Perfect Swing.
With these factors in place (and many, many more), PGA Tour 2K25 provides a refined golf experience tailored for newcomers and pros alike. The development team stated that they want PGA Tour 2K25 players to play their way, and they have succeeded with flying colors.
On that same note, PGA Tour 2K25’s MyPLAYER skill trees offer incredible depth. An RPG-style mode, players will set out to play a good game, refine one’s personality via interviews, and secure sponsorship deals from that follower clout we all crave.
While one isn’t a feeble fogey from the offset, but players can definitely make a name for themselves and see improvement and growth in this robust mode.
For the pros who grew up with the PGA Tour 2K series, PGA Tour 2K25 sets out to be the best entry to date. For authenticity, MyCAREER features The U.S. Open Championship, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship. Graphics have also received a serious glow-up; while we were playing on a humble NVIDIA RTX 3060ti, PGA Tour 2K25 is one good-looking game.
Of course, those who previously immersed themselves in PGA Tour 2K23 will be pleased to know staples like TopGolf and the robust Course Director make their return. In the case of the latter, additional camera controls make things that much better.
Even if you’re not looking to make the next Pebble Beach (a tall order!), the sheer amount of customization options in PGA Tour 2K25’s Course Director make it a bona-fide addiction.
Do note that PGA Tour 2K25 has some microtransactions under its hood through its VC (Virtual Currency) system. One can earn VC through play, but it can be a slow drip.
Not only can VC be spent at the PGA Tour Superstore, it is also tied to player attributes in the aforementioned MyPLAYER mode through one’s OVR (Overall Rating).
One does start their OVR in PGA Tour 2K25’s MyPLAYER mode at OVR 65, so players will already be a good way there without spending a dime.
As such, this didn’t prove to be an issue during the PGA Tour 2K25 review period – and the development team stated during the review period that players will spend less time upgrading their MyPLAYER in future updates – but it is still worth noting nonetheless.
