Those that take the time to know MiSide’s many Mitas will be rewarded with a surreal horror title that will constantly keep the player on their toes.
A new year means a new you – and what better way to do so than with a newfound love like Mita?
AIHASTO and IndieArk have just the thing with MiSide, a new title with the heartstopper all too eager to immerse you in its lovey-dovey world – at least at first glance.
Does this title deserve love, or does this overly infectious romance need an upgrade?

Bored with the same ol’-same ol’, players kick off MiSide by playing a dating sim with the cutie Mita. After the day-to-day becomes happenstance, however, players will enter Mita’s world and live out their chicken soup fantasies as they play minigames and take part in other idyllic distractions.
However, things in MiSide aren’t saccharine – despite what Mita wants you to believe. After an upgrade mishap, there’s multitudes of Mitas, glitches (and spawning carrots), and something nefarious that the player will become wise to sooner rather than later.
Those expecting a slice-of-life dating sim, you picked the wrong title – MiSide is surreal survival horror through and through. It channels the same vibes that you’d see in something like Doki Doki Literature Club (spoilers), rewarding the player as they unravel the layers of its surreal adventure like an onion.
As players figure out exactly what’s going on as they chug down Dead Juice and contend with Mitas like Cool Mita (who’s got herself a new hat!) and Crazy Mita, they’ll go behind the game and see if they can figure out the inner workings, previous versions, and greater Core of this game within a game.
MiSide pries itself on its vagueness, leaving people guessing as they progress from minigame to minigame. This also happens to be its greatest strength – those thinking they’ll know what is going to happen next will be thrown the curviest of curveballs when yet another Mita pops up when one least expects it.
On that note, MiSide does pull from titles like the Five Nights at Freddy’s series in the way that it approaches its horror. Backrooms, stealth, and randomness are all alive and well, which will pair better with some players more than others. While some may say that’s “just how it is” like they do in the game, one’s mileage may vary depending on how much they appreciate this style of play.
Nevertheless, we did enjoy deeply exploring the space between MiSide’s different versions. MiSide was made with a great attention to detail, and while the confines of its in-game abode for part of the title might be stifling, we still did appreciate the sheer amount of attention that went into each element of this title.
