A Thread Of Hope Choice Guide For The Alters

The Thread of Hope story mission gives Jan a difficult choice. He can choose to progress with Maxwell’s research and create a Tabula Rasa or he can call Lena for a second opinion.

There is a lot to unwrap in this particular choice.

If You Choose To Use The Neural Implants

You will need to construct the implants and then wait 3 days before they are ready. Once they are complete, you meet with the Alters in the Kitchen. During the cut-scene, Jan Technician passes out. Presumably because he is the first likely to be stricken with the condition.

I had Jan Doctor at the time, and he said he was fine. Jan Scientist gives the Neural Implant to each Alter. Depending on the Alters you have, this will permanently change the attitude of some toward Jan.

It’s relatively easy to understand who’s who. Jan Scientist prefers the Tabula Rasa method while others, such as the Technician, Botanist, and Doctor, all prefer the Neural Implants.

Making this choice will cause The Technician to hate Jan. At the end of Act 2, when you attempt to leave the area, Jan Technician will attack you. Later, you will have the option to have Jan Tecnician and other rebels rejoin the Alters.

If You Choose Tabula Rasa

Much of the same events follow except when Jan Technician leaves, he will never return to the base. Even if you help him at the shelter, he will not return with Jan and the others.

Although, after this moment, you can still align yourself with Lucas and maybe Lena (depending on previous choices), this will typically lead to a more negative ending than going with the Neural Implants as you learn about Maxwell’s hidden agenda and use for the Rapidium
