Pokemon Legends Z-A Wild Zone Guide

Want to know every Pokemon that lives in each of the Wild Zone’s in Pokemon Legends: Z-A? In this guide, we break down each Wild Zone by location and Pokemon, including tips on hidden and secret Pokemon that you may miss the first time around.

If you’re struggling to catch specific Pokemon in the Wild Zones, be sure to look at some of the special Poke Balls you can buy to increase your chances!

Wild Zone #1

Wild Zone 1 is the first Wild Zone players will get to explore. The majority of Pokemon there are easy to catch, however, a few require a bit more thought.

To catch Pichu and Pidgey, you will need to reach Level 2 in Mable’s Research to learn Rock Smash. You can then smash the rocks in Wild Zone 1 to reach the rooftops for Pidgey and a ladder to cross the water near Pichu.

  • Weedle
  • Pichu
  • Scatterbug
  • Fletchling
  • Pidgey
  • Mareep
  • Bunnelby

Wild Zone #2

Most of the Pokemon in Wild Zone #2 are relatively easy to locate, with a couple of exceptions. Kakuna can be found hanging from trees, it’s usually on a tree in the North West corner of Wild Zone #2.

  • Kakuna
  • Patrat
  • Binacle
  • Staryu
  • Magikarp
  • Budew

Wild Zone #3

All of the Pokemon in Wild Zone #3 spawn naturally in multiple locations, making it an easy one to get to 100%. Make sure to enter the building and climb to the roof to get the hidden item at the top.

  • Skiddo
  • Pancham
  • Litleo
  • Espurr
  • Flabebe
  • Pikachu

Wild Zone #4

All but one of the Pokemon here are regular spawns, easy to find. Honedge is the only one with spawning requirements. You need to visit Wild Zone #4 at night. Run around the area, and you should see a Honedge spawning within a couple of minutes, but they are quite rare compared to the other Pokemon here.

  • Patrat
  • Gastly
  • Honedge
  • Spewpa
  • Ekans
  • Spinrak

Wild Zone #5

You can catch Venipede, Bellsprout and Bunnelby on the ground level of the area, but to catch the other Pokemon you will need to explore the stream and the rooftops. To gain access to these locations you’re going to need a Pokemon that can remove bramble bushes and a Pokemon that can remove the sludge.

Be careful in Wild Zone #5. There is a level 25 Alpha Bellsprout near one of the entrances.

To catch an Electrike you need to return at night and explore the rooftops, this is past the stream and up the ladder at the end of the area.

  • Pidgeotto
  • Venipede
  • Electrike
  • Bellsprout
  • Abra
  • Pidgey
  • Bunnelby

Wild Zone #6

Be careful entering Wild Zone #6. There is a level 33 Alpha Houndoom in the area that’s very aggressive. There is also a level 32 Alpha Binacle in the water section. Otherwise, Swablu and Flaffy can be found on the rooftops, accessible by using the Holovator.

Be careful on the rooftop accessible via ladder, there’s a level 43 Alpha Pikachu up there.

  • Binacle
  • Meditite
  • Buneary
  • Magikarp
  • Houndour
  • Swablu
  • Flaffy

Wild Zone #7

Be wary of the Level 37 Fletchinder Alpha that can sometimes be at the central part of the area. All of the Pokemon here are readily available, without much discovery or problem-solving. Shuppet is the only Pokemon that requires Night Time to spawn.

  • Hippopotas
  • Audino
  • Vanillite
  • Kakuna
  • Floette
  • Roselia
  • Shuppet

Wild Zone #8

This is a fun zone. Be prepared to be attacked by multiple Pokemon at once, anywhere from 2-5. Mostly ground, so grass works a treat. All of the Pokemon here are available any time of day. However, the Gible and Drilbur will only spawn if you approach the dirt mounds. Gible is quite rare, but keep checking the mounds and you’ll find one before long.

  • Krokorok
  • Sandile
  • Gible
  • Drilbur
  • Machop
  • Numel

Wild Zone #9

Be careful of the level 43 Alpha Meowstik, and level 40 Alpha Manectric on the rooftops. All of the Pokemon in Wild Zone #9 are relatively common and easy to find. The Espurr will only spaw at night, and on one of the rooftops.

  • Carbink
  • Espurr
  • Fletchinder
  • Kadabra
  • Sableye
  • Mawile

Wild Zone #10

Watch out for the level 43 Alpha Sharpedo in the waterway and the level 41 Alpha Watchdog and 51 Alpha Arbok on the rooftops. All Pokemon in the zone are available to catch at any time, except Arbok. He only spawns on a rooftop during the night.

  • Slowpoke
  • Arbok
  • Watchdog
  • Bellsprout
  • Carvanha
  • Staryu
  • Tynamo

Wild Zone #11

There’s a level 43 Alpha Clawitzer but otherwise, this area is relatively unremarkable. All of the Pokemon are readily available to catch throughout the day.

  • Gyarados
  • Clauncher
  • Furfrou
  • Inkay
  • Slowpoke
  • Stunfisk

Wild Zone #12

Be careful of the level 45 Alpha Abomasnow and level 56 Alpha Avalugg. Most of these Pokemon are readily available, but you will need Rock Smash to get to Mahop and Machoke. Delibird can be a little tricky to catch as it will not battle.

Approach quietly and use a powerful Rock move to knock it out in one hit. Hunt it at night with a Dusk Ball and it should be an easy catch.

  • Delibird
  • Machop
  • Snover
  • Bergmite
  • Vanillite
  • Gogoat
  • Snorunt
  • Machoke

Wild Zone #13

This is one of the smallest Wild Zones, but be cautious. There’s a level 47 Alpha Weepinbell here that is in very close proximity to several other aggressive Pokemon. At night, a level 47 Alpha Trevenant takes the Weepinbell’s place, but you must come in at night to catch Phantump and Scyther.

  • Phantump
  • Vivillon
  • Heracross
  • Pinsir
  • Weepinbell
  • Scyther

Wild Zone #14

There’s a level 49 Alpha Excadrill at the heart of Wild Zone 14 but other than that, not much note here. All of the Pokemon are available to be caught during the day. Onix is the only rare spawn, popping out of the dirt mounds when approach.

  • Helioptile
  • Drilbur
  • Onix
  • Aron
  • Lairon
  • Excadrill
  • Emolga

Wild Zone #15

Wild Zone 15 is a very small zone and is home to two regular Alpha spawns during the day. A level 53 Gourgeist and a level 51 Beedrill. During nighttime, a level 53 Alpha Banette takes the place of the Beedrill.

All Pokemon here can be caught during the day, except for Haunter and Shuppet, they only spawn at night.

There is a secret rooftop area that can only be accessed from a Holovator on Hibernal Avenue. There is a level 51 Alpha Larvitar up there.

  • Pumpkaboo
  • Shuppet
  • Scolipede
  • Haunter
  • Whirlipede
  • Beedrill
  • Larvitar

Wild Zone #16

This one can be quite challenging to complete because Falinks and Medicham share spawns during the day, and Falinks and Barbaracle share spawns during the night.

When Pokemon share a spawn, one will randomly spawn at that location. So, if you want to catch another of the same spawn, you will need to kill the Pokemon in the area.

There’s a level 53 Alpha Ampharos here and also a Froakie who sits atop the spire in the center, but he’s very shy and will retreat if it sees you. Barbaracle and Starmie only spawn at night. Starmie is incredibly rare, probably one of the rarest Wild Zone spawns in the game.

Florges is an incredibly rare spawn, I was here for hours. It spawns around the fountain, so be sure to clear all the Pokemon there regularly. When it finally appears, I recommend lowering its health to low so you have several attempts to catch it. If you simply knock out it, you only get the one shot.

  • Falinks
  • Flaffy
  • Starmie
  • Barbaracle
  • Medicham
  • Florges
  • Froakie

Wild Zone #17

There’s a level 57 Alpha Pyroar on the upper level and a level 57 Alpha Mawile on the rooftops. Skarmory flies around above the Alpha Pyroar. Lampent only spawns at night, on the rooftops. Chespin has a chance to appear from the mounds of dirt on the lower level, at night.

  • Klefki
  • Lampent
  • Skarmory (need to catch still)
  • Pyroar
  • Diggersby
  • Chespin

Wild Zone #18

It’s worth noting that Wild Zone 18 has a hidden rooftop section that is only accessible from a scaffolding outside of the zone, that leads to the roof entrance. There’s a level 62 Alpha Salamance and level 55 Alpha Lopunny on the ground level.

Altaria, Swablu, and Fennekin can be found on the rooftops, but Fennekin will flee if you are seen. Noibat and X can only be caught at night, on the rooftops, where the Altaria and Swablu are during the day.

  • Noibat
  • Fennekin
  • Bagon
  • Alteria
  • Noivern
  • Swablu

Wild Zone #19

There can be a level 58 Alpha Furfrou here, that also shares a spawn with the Drampa. At night, there’s a level 60 Alpha Clefairy at the same spot. Clefairy, Cleffa, and Eevee can only be seen at night.

Eevee is a rare, singular spawn, and can most often be found between the lines of bushes in the area.

  • Eevee
  • Furfrou
  • Drampa
  • Kangaskhan
  • Audino
  • Clefairy
  • Cleffa

Wild Zone #20

This is the largest Wild Zone in the game. Previous zones held up to a maximum of 8 Pokemon, but Wild Zone 20 features 15 different species. It is only unlocked once the player has completed the game.

I only saw Squirtle at night, but the rest of the Pokemon are readily available throughout the day.

The area under the tower is also home to a huge variety of rotating Alpha’s

  • Malamar
  • Dragalge
  • Charmander
  • Tepig
  • Lucario
  • Hippowdon
  • Squirtle
  • Totodile
  • Roserade
  • Gardevoir
  • Chikorita
  • Bulbasaur
  • Aggron
  • Scrafty
  • Garbodor

Wild Zone FAQ

The Wild Zones in Pokemon Legends: Z-A is an entirely new mechanic for the Pokemon franchise. Below is a list of common questions and answers to better help you understand Wild Zones.

What are Wild Zones?
Wild Zones are instanced areas on the map that are, usually, free of NPC’s and other distractions. They serve as a way to capture multiple new Pokemon over a short period of time.

How do you unlock more Wild Zones?
Wild Zones are unlocked naturally through story progression. At the beginning of the game, you will start with 7 available Wild Zones. As you reach important points in the story, following the main quest line, additional Wild Zones are unlocked.

Do Pokemon respawn in Wild Zones?
Yes, all Pokemon from Wild Zones will respawn. You simply leave the area and use a park bench to pass the time. This includes the Alpha Pokemon.

Is farming Wild Zones good for experience points?
If you have a Pokemon that can comfortably kill everything in the area in a single hit, maybe two for Alpha’s, it can be a very quick way to level lower level Pokemon. However, once your Pokemon are higher, Battle Zones are much faster.
